Compare North and South of Italy

Most tourists who visit Italy stay in the northern
half of the country such as Rome, Florence, Milan,
Venice, but most people don’t venture to
the country’s southern half. When you visit
prosperous northern cities, just remember
that whole country doesn’t look like that.
Much of the north of Italy is a wide low lying
river valley and is closer to the other industrial
centre of central Europe. The goods that
have been produced can be easily exported
and sold to European markets. The north Italy
has plenty of flat land available for large factories,
and a large population in the area provides a large
local labor force. Besides, there is a good road and
rail network in the north of Italy.
In the Southern of Italy, it is hilly,
even mountainous in places. Much of the south is
remote and hard to reach. The road network
is limited. In addition, the soil in the south is poor
and unproductive. Unemployment rates tend to
be high in south of Italy . Some area can even
reach 30% or more. The area has very few
natural resources, little money and limited
skills. All in all, some people in the north of
Italy prefer to split the country in two. Actually,
the invisible barrier has already separated northern
and southern Italy.
